I looked at the work of Mickey Duzyj, an illustrator who works on comics and his own individual pieces.
I particularly liked this piece of his because of the unique and abstract colour ways and comic art style. I then attempted to imitate the character on the left using a graphics tablet on photoshop, here is my attempt:
